The Teen Center is a free youth-led drop-in program that offers enriching opportunities for youth in grades 6-12 to bolster real-world skills, academics, mental health, and social well-being. The center also makes a positive impact for teens by putting youth at the forefront of delivering service projects through two Youth Action Boards operating in both Berwick and Bloomsburg. Youth Action Board (YAB) provides youth a unique hands-on leadership program designed to teach responsibility and to develop critical leadership skills through innovation and service.
The Berwick Teen Center is approximately 3,500 sq. feet of recreation and socializing space, with areas designated for group and quiet study, tutoring, and a small rehearsal space for musicians. Gaming tables and lounge areas with Wi-Fi access for hanging out. Food options are available through For The Cause Kids Café, free of charge.
YAB and the Teen Center serve as a volunteer hub for students looking to engage in the community. The past year has resulted in many successful events and collaborations with businesses, non-profits, and local school districts. The teens continue to support the local community by organizing events and raising thousands of dollars for ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund, by providing thousands of school supplies through their annual Stuff the Bus campaign, and by distributing thousands of meals in their Summer Food Distribution program. Additionally, our newly-formed Bloomsburg YAB sponsored a hygiene drive and collected hundreds of items to benefit the Bloomsburg Women’s Center. In the future we are looking forward to brand new Benton YAB’s accomplishments as well as the YAB Alumni Association, as all groups are striving to help their local communities succeed!
